The Evolving Singing Voice with Professor Karen Brunssen
The human voice is magnificent at every age. For those of us who sing, we are the power source (breath support), the vibrator (vocal folds and the larynx), and the resonator (our mouth and pharynx) of our "living" vocal instrument. At every age, function is dependent on where the body is within progressive and constant changes. At every age exercising the singing voice increases the elasticity, coordination, flexibility, and strength of muscles involved in singing. However, anatomical changes require reconsideration for vocal expectations, physical realities, and musical strategies that are very different as proportions of the body, inside and out, change unsymmetrically throughout life. We will discuss this and how we, as adult singers, can care for our voices for healthy, long-term singing. This workshop was filmed live on January 25th, 2021 with Karen Brunssen (presenter) and Michael Carney (moderator).
